Whether this is your first year or your tenth year as a teletherapist, you may be thinking about the upcoming year with some thoughts on how to make it your best year yet. Here are some tips from us:
b.e.e. a good communicator
Communicate with your contracting company about what you are looking for this school year. Let them know your available hours, preferred caseload, strengths, and what you are most interested in.
When you meet your district colleagues, provide an introductory email to school staff and parents sharing your experience, a bit about yourself, as well as the best way to contact you.
Communicate throughout the year! Issues often stay small if you communicate often and early. Remember people like to hear when things are going well too.
b.e.e. organized
Create a checklist of what you need to be effective
IEP log in
District email (if possible)
School staff contact information
Complete the basics now…before school starts
Annual behavior training
Update your personal liability insurance
Stay on track with completing your Continuing Education Units
Take some time to get to know what platform you will be using
Create a tracking system to ensure you have plenty of time to prepare for annual and triennial IEPs.
b.e.e. effective
Plan early for your first day of therapy with your students. Establishing a good rapport sets the stage for a successful year! Have fun, encourage, and listen.
Review student goals and identify or create activities to start the year strong. Don’t miss a day of making progress.
Communicate with parents, teachers, and staff early and throughout the year to ensure all are aware of the goals and on board to help positively support the student!
b.e.e. yourself!
If you find the passion in what you do, you and your students will not only enjoy the sessions but progress will be made. It is so fun to meet their goals and help them to thrive educationally and socially
Enjoy the work! You are making a difference.
