Which Summer Bee Are You?
It's officially the slow season — caseloads are closed, SEIS is (blessedly) quiet, and the only meetings on the calendar are the ones you're choosing to have. Whether you're a school-based SLP finally exhaling after a full year of IEPs, or a SPED director using the summer to plan ahead for fall, one thing's true for everyone right now: this is the season to refill your cup.
So in true b.e.e. fashion, we put together a lighthearted way to figure out how you're spending (or should be spending) your summer. Grab an iced coffee, take two minutes, and find out — which summer bee are you?
🐝 The Poolside Bee
You've got a book you haven't opened in three weeks, a float you refuse to get out of, and zero interest in checking email. Your idea of "planning ahead" is deciding whether it's a pool day or a lake day. Honestly? Good for you. After a year of transitions, evals, and everything in between, doing absolutely nothing is doing something.
Recharge tip: Let yourself be bored. Burnout doesn't get undone by a to-do list — it gets undone by stillness.
🐝 The Passport Bee
You booked a flight the second the school year ended. Whether it's a big trip abroad or a weekend somewhere new, you recharge by putting distance — literal distance — between yourself and the classroom. New places, new food, new perspective.
Recharge tip: Resist the urge to "productivity-ify" your trip. You don't need to come back with a Pinterest board of therapy ideas. You're allowed to just have a good time.
🐝 The Garden Bee
You're happiest with your hands in the dirt. Maybe it's an actual garden, maybe it's a home project you've been putting off all year, maybe it's finally organizing the closet that's been haunting you since September. You recharge by creating order and watching something grow — literally or figuratively.
Recharge tip: Pick one project, not five. Summer's short, and the goal is satisfaction, not a second job.
🐝 The Hustle Bee
Summer "off" is relative for you. Maybe you're picking up ESY hours, maybe you're studying for a cert, maybe you're the district or agency person quietly building the fall roster while everyone else is at the beach (hi, SPED directors, we see you). You recharge by staying in motion — just at your own pace, on your own terms.
Recharge tip: There's a difference between purposeful momentum and never letting yourself stop. Build in at least one truly off day a week — even you need a recharge.
🐝 The Homebody Bee
No plans, no itinerary, and that's exactly how you like it. Your summer looks like slow mornings, your own bed, and finally getting to the shows and hobbies that got pushed aside all year. You recharge by staying put and letting the pace of life slow all the way down.
Recharge tip: Protect this. It's easy to feel like you should be doing more with the time off. You don't. Rest is the point.
No matter which bee you are...
Summer is short, and it's the one stretch of the year that's actually yours. Whichever way you're spending it — poolside, wheels up, elbow-deep in a garden bed, still logging hours, or horizontal on your own couch — it counts as recharging.
And when caseloads open back up and the fall rush hits, we'll be here — the same way we always are. Founder-led, relationship-first, and just an email or text away. No call center, no account rep you've never met — just Lauren and Michelle, real people who were school-based SLPs too.
Enjoy the season. We'll see you in the fall.
b.e.e. therapy is a founder-led SLP staffing agency placing credentialed speech-language pathologists in California K–12 school districts. Have a question about fall placement, caseloads, or joining our team? Reach out anytime — you'll always land with a founder.
